About the project
Household organisation rarely fails for lack of apps, it fails because nobody uses them voluntarily. FamUnity inverts that: tasks award experience points, there are leaderboards within the family, and an activity feed that feels closer to a social network than to an admin panel.
The app covers the whole household: tasks and habits with a reward system, a pantry with expiry alerts and AI-assisted recipe suggestions from whatever is still in stock, collaborative shopping lists synced in realtime, meal-time notifications and a shared family calendar.
The mobile app is built in Flutter, following clean architecture with a clear split between presentation, domain and data layers, and BLoC for state management. The web interface is a separate Next.js application sharing the same Supabase backend.
The most interesting part is in the database. Family data is other people data, so access control does not live in the app but in PostgreSQL itself: row level security scopes every table to your own family, and anything requiring trust, meaning invite-based joins, XP awards, rewards and streaks, runs through server-side functions rather than client writes.
